Welcome to the Renzo Gracie Academy of Newark,NJ -Team Bittencourt's web site. We are located in the heart on Newark N.J.'s Ironbound section, just a 10 minute walk from Newark Penn Station and Path Trains. We offer classes seven days a week in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
  If you would like to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to get into shape, learn self defense, or want to become a serious competitor, our facility is the place to train. We provide a safe and friendly enviornment  under the supervision of 3rd Degree Black Belt Romulo Bittencourt, our Head Instructor. We run 24 classes a week, with most of our classes lasting 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours.

  We are a proud member of the RENZO GRACIE ASSOCIATION, an elite group of Jiu-Jitsu schools that are held to the highest standard of training ,officially endorsed by Renzo Gracie.

Congrats to Steve "STEVE-O"Romanides for his 1st Round victory at New Breed over a very tough competitor-Mark Patock from Team Oliviera BJJ. Steve-0 submitted his opponent with 5 seconds left in the 1st round via Arm Bar!!Great Job to all of our students who competed this Saturday in the NAGA tournement!!A very special promotion happened this Monday 3/2/09. Joares Machado was promoted to BLACK BELT and Tony Batchelor was promoted to PURPLE BELT.  What makes this promotion so special is that Joares is 62 years old and Tony is 63 years old. Renzo Gracie Academy took the 1st place trophy for the entire event. In fact RGA 's total points more than doubled the 2nd place runner up. RGA became the first U.S.based academy to take a first place trophy in an IBJJF tourney!
